1950s- Cold War/ American Culture
Economic
America during the 1950s was doing ok. In the 1950s a lot of technologies were build orcreated. One example of the technologies that were build or created was the medicine, the creation of new drugs to fight the worst diseases of the time, for example cancer, diabetes, and polio. Another example of the new technologies was the electronics. The transistors were created during the 1950s which allowed devises to get smaller, one example was the radios. Radios were very popular during this time period because it was the only way to find out about the news. Also computers were created for farter calculations, too. Another example of new technologies build or created in the 1950s was the satellites. The first satellite was created by the Soviets, and it was called Sputnik. Also airplanes were now commercially used, and they were a success, for example American Airlines, and US Airways.
Political
After the Berlin crisis, the United States shifted the attention to Europe from economic recovery and military preparation. This lead to the creation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). NATO consisted of nine Western European nations that joined the Unites States,
Iceland, and Canada in military alliance. Each nation pledged to defend each other nation in the event of an outside attack. All these nations came together and joined NATO on April of 1949. (Book)

Social
In the 1950s the family life changed for good. During the Great Depression and WWII people delayed their marriages, and having kids. Once the war was over people started to get married. People were starting to get married and have kids at very early ages. The birth rate increased by a lor, the birth rate accounted for more than 90 percent of the 30 million increase in the population during the 1950s. Such high birth rate was called the baby boom. Also because there was the development of the suburbia people were moving out of their houses and moving to the suburbia. The tipical family before the suburbianization in one house consisted of grandparents, parents, and children. After people started moving to the suburbia a typical family in one house was just parents, and children. Also the life for women was really boring because they were housewifes all the time, and devoted all their energy to her kids and husband.
Does these events lead to progress? Why?
During the 1950s Americans were progressing socially. The reason why I think this is because the fact that families were having more
babies, and moving out of their houses to live in the suburbia was good for America, because now people were constantly competing with each other to see who had the most modernized things on their housed, which created a better economy, because people were now spending their own money. Life for women was not the best at this time period, because they were mostly housewives ,and all they did was raise their kids and play the wife role. Politically I could say America was progressing, because now thanks to the NATO America is protected by other nations if something bad happens, like an attack. Economically America was doing great, there were a lot of new technologies created during the 50s, for example medicine, computers, smaller radios, commercial airplanes, and satellites, which helped America be a better nation. Medicine stopped polio, smaller radios were very popular at the time, commercial airplanes were a complete success, and satellites were able to do many new things like being able to call someone that is in another country, it lead to the internet, satellites also helps with the weather forecasting, and man more things. These events were leading to American progress because, for example the freedom riders, they were a lot of people who wanted to end segregation, and that came from the large young population that was raised due to the baby boom.
